Stevia

Printer-Friendly Format

Stevia is an all-natural, zero calorie sweetener derived from the leafy green foliage of the Stevia plant, native to South America and has been used as a sweetener for over 400 years. It has also been vastly popular in Japan for more than 30 years.

It often comes in little packets in powder form and can be used in hot or cold beverages instead of sugar. It also comes in liquid form. Because Stevia has a negligible effect on blood glucose, even enhancing glucose tolerance, it is attractive as a natural sweetener to diabetics and others on carbohydrate-controlled diets.
